Weber State recorded its first win over an FBS opponent since 1993, completely dominating Utah State in a 35-7 victory. The Wildcats had four interceptions and held the Aggies without an offensive touchdown. The win vaulted Weber State to No. 13 in this week’s AFCA FCS Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. The Wildcats next opponent is Utah Tech on September 17.
The Top 5 remained unchanged with North Dakota State still sitting at No. 1 with 26 first-place votes. The Bison handed North Carolina A&T a 43-3 beating as they prepare for FBS opponent Arizona on Saturday.
The rest of the Top 25 saw massive changes thanks to some upsets and surprising wins. Missouri State moved up to No. 6 thanks to their 35-30 victory over then-No. 14 UT Martin. Southern Illinois, Southeastern Louisiana, Northern Iowa, and UC Davis all recorded losses that dropped them out of the poll, making room for four new teams. Fordham enters at No. 21 while Youngstown State comes in at No. 23. Both programs have 2-0 records to start the season. Eastern Kentucky used seven overtimes to beat Bowling Green, 59-57, and enters at No. 24 while Samford rounds out this week’s poll at No. 25.
