Virginia Union was last ranked in the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll on October 21, 2019. The Panthers were ranked No. 25 that week, but they did three spots better in this week’s poll. Virginia Union is 3-0 and comes in at No. 22 after a 42-6 beating of Livingstone (N.C.). Next on the Panther’s radar is a trip to Fayetteville State (N.C.) this coming Saturday.
It was another week of movement in the Top 25 as several teams switched spots from a week ago. The Top 5 teams are the same, but the rankings are different with Angelo State (Tex.) taking over the fourth spot while Shepherd (W.Va.) drops to No. 5. Ferris State (Mich.) was idle, but still holds the No. 1 spot with 29 first-place votes.
Along with Virginia Union, two other teams entered the poll this week thanks to losses from West Texas A&M, Bowie State (Md.), and Minnesota State, who dropped out. Henderson State (Ark.) is ranked for the first time this season. The Reddies are 3-0 after outlasting Arkansas-Monticello, 37-27. Nebraska-Kearney re-enters the Top 25 after dropping out last week. The Lopers are No. 25 and will host Central Missouri on Saturday.
