[D2 Poll] California (PA.) Rises to No. 3 in AFCA Poll
November 1, 2021
California (Pa.) scored 28 unanswered points in the first quarter and rolled to a 42-14 win over Seton Hill (Pa.). The win, along with a West Georgia loss, allowed the Vulcans to rise to No. 3 in this week’s AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. California (Pa.), who is 8-0 on the season, clinched at least a share of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division title with only one week of league play left to go.

Ferris State (Mich.) still sits at No. 1, but with No. 2 Valdosta State’s 36-34 win over then-No. 3 West Georgia, the rest of the top-five is new. Following California (Pa.) is No. 4 West Florida and No. 5 Ouachita Baptist (Ark.). California (Pa.) and West Florida get to test their new rankings as both play top-25 opponents on Saturday. The Vulcans face No. 15 Slippery Rock (Pa.) while the Argonauts travel to newly ranked and No. 23 West Alabama.
Another new team to the poll is No. 24 New Haven (Conn.). The Chargers beat Assumption (Mass.), 16-10, to move their record to 7-1 and enter the poll for the first time since December 17, 2018. They will host No. 9 Bentley (Mass.) with first place in the Northeast-10 on the line.
