The College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation, in partnership with the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), honored Cassandra Benjamin, a first grade teacher at Waco’s West Avenue Elementary School, during the Extra Yard for Teachers Week. Monday, September 14 is The Big Day where teachers all across the country are recognized and supported during this special week.
Cassandra Benjamin is in her second year at West Avenue Elementary and earned Waco ISD’s Virginia DuPuy First-Year Teacher of the Year Award during the 2019-20 academic year. John Weeks, principal at West Avenue Elementary said about Mrs. Benjamin, “She has a tremendous attitude and energy this is contagious throughout the entire building and carries it into her classroom.”
Todd Berry, AFCA Executive Director, presented Mrs. Benjamin with a $1,000 gift card, courtesy of the CFP Foundation Extra Yard for Teachers, in which she can use to buy school supplies for her classroom.
The CFP Foundation is the largest sports entity supporting education in America. The BIG DAY is a national effort among all of CFP Foundation’s partners to say “thank you” to teachers and to show how much we support them. More than $5 million in grants, gift cards and resource value is slated to be given to teachers and educators across the country on The BIG DAY. Many CFP Foundation partners, colleges, universities, conferences and bowl games have committed to participate in the generosity and celebration. Thousands of teachers, classrooms and schools will be impacted, with millions of kids benefited through generous investments for supplies, resources, classroom improvements, and media center makeovers.
The CFP Foundation encourages all to envision a country in which our greatest assets, teachers, are given the resources, recognition and professional development to help them prepare students for success. The CFP Foundation has invested approximately $38 million in support of K-through-12 education, supporting more than 311,000 teachers nationwide and creating a positive impact for more than seven million students.
