[D3 Poll] St. John’s (Minn.) continues Their Winning Ways

Even when they had to use a backup quarterback, St. John’s (Minn.) keeps winning. Starting quarterback Aaron Syverson was injured in the third quarter with the Johnnies clinging to a 10-7 lead. Senior backup Chris Backes led the Johnnies to 27 unanswered points in the game’s final 20 minutes to beat Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.), 37-7. St. John’s remains No. 5 in the AFCA Division III Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.

The Top 10 remained the same this week with North Central (Ill.) continuing to lead the way at No. 1. The Cardinals dispatched Illinois Wesleyan, 55-7, to move to 7-0. No. 2 Mary Hardin-Baylor (Tex.) had little problem with Sul Ross State (Tex.), winning in dominate fashion, 72-14. No. 3 Wisconsin-Whitewater won a close contest over Wisconsin-River Falls, 34-28, while No. 4 Mount Union (Ohio) had very few problems in beating Heidelberg (Ohio), 49-14.
There is only one Top 25 matchup this coming Saturday and it is a big game in the Centennial Conference. No. 18 Susquehanna (Pa.), who is at the top of the conference with a 6-0 record, travels to No. 20 Johns Hopkins (Md.), who sits in tie for second place.
