October 18, 2021
Birmingham-Southern (Ala.) overcame five turnovers and scored two touchdowns in the 4th quarter to pull out a 28-21 victory over Centre (Ky.) to keep their record spotless at 6-0. The win gave the Panthers enough votes to come in ranked No. 23 in the AFCA Division III Coaches’ Top 25 for the first time in 2021. BSC sits in a tie with No. 20 Trinity (Tex.) for the top spot in the Southern Athletic Association.

North Central (Ill.) keeps solidifying its hold on the No. 1 spot, gathering 40 of the 47 first-place votes. The Cardinals are 6-0 after a dominating 77-7 win over Elmhurst (Ill.). They are still followed by Mary Hardin-Baylor (Tex.) at No. 2, Wisconsin-Whitewater at No. 3. Mount Union (Ohio) at No. 4 and St. John’s (Minn.) at No. 5.
There was very little movement in the Top 25 this week. The biggest mover was Muhlenberg (Pa.) jumping up four places to No. 18 after upsetting then-No. 11 Johns Hopkins (Md.), 21-6. The loss dropped Johns Hopkins 10 spots to No. 21.
