Bethel’s (Minn.) Kamari Durmas intercepted a St. John’s (Minn.) pass with over two minutes left to go in the game, icing the 28-24 upset for the Royals. Bethel’s victory snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Johnnies and jumped the Royals to No. 18 in this week’s AFCA Division III Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. The loss dropped St. John’s from No. 2 to No. 9.
North Central (Ill.) is still the No. 1 team, but the rest of the Top 25 looks different this week. Mount Union (Ohio) moves to the No. 2 spot, followed by Mary Hardin-Baylor (Tex.) at No. 3. The Crusaders dominated then-No. 6 Hardin-Simmons (Tex.) in a 50-20 blowout, causing the Cowboys to drop to No. 14. Wisconsin-Whitewater was idle but rises to No. 4, as was Linfield (Ore.), who jumped to No. 5.
There are three Top 25 matchups this coming weekend with the biggest being a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference bout as No. 4 Wisconsin-Whitewater travels to No. 8 Wisconsin-La Crosse. In other action, No. 1 North Central plays host to conference rival and No. 13 Wheaton (Ill.) while No. 10 Delaware Valley (Pa.) travels to newly ranked and No. 25 Stevenson (Md.).
